Scholarships for Latino Students

In 2012 Youth Discovery Inc, in conjunction with our partners, raised $9,200 to be given to minority students for Scholarships to higher education. $5,200 was awarded in 2012 to XX students, and the other $4,000 will be awarded to either 4 or 8 students within the first months of 2013.

The $5,200 was raised in conjunction State Farm Insurance as part of their 26 Second Campaign. A Fun Run was organized to raise the money and, in addition, the local State Farm Insurance agents contributed substantially. The participants in the fun run were eligible to apply for the scholarships.

Below is a photo of some of our minority students with LeBron James, of the Miami Heat, a State Farm advocate of the 26 Second Campaign. The $4,000 was awarded to Youth Discovery Inc by the Mexican Consulate in Salt Lake City as a partial match to the $5,200 raised privately. The $4,000 is earmarked for Mexican citizens or decedents of Mexican citizens and the selection process is currently underway.

As part of each Scholarship application each applicant was required to write an essay on what would they do with the achievement of a higher education enabled by the scholarship. Examples of the essays are accessed by clicking on the links below.

Youth Discovery Inc wants to provide much more in Scholarship money to assist struggling minority students. Please go to the Donate page and make a donation to our Scholarship fund.

In the year 2012 YDI VISTA Volunteers assisted high school students in obtaining over $160,000 in scholarships. Some were FASFA US Government scholarships, but others were scholarships that can be earned by un-documented students. Here’s how:
