The Latino Initiative

The Student Campaign of the Latino Initiative is an in-depth look at what youth can do to help close the Achievement Gap and reach their full potential. This is only a preliminary set of ideas to help these youth. Beyond this document is the concept of the Diversity Discovery Class, which we envisioned after the document, was written.

Latino youth in America are at an Educational Crisis. The American workplace is demanding more and more highly skilled employees, and with the high drop-out rate of Latinos from high school, and the low graduation rate from universities, Latinos will not be able to achieve the economic status that their parents envisioned for them when they came here.

The Student Campaign is a place to start. We must also include the parents, the community, and the educational system. Youth Discovery hopes to see that every Latino youth has the chance for a higher education.
