Vision

Long Term Vision of Youth Discovery Inc

The long-term vision of Youth Discovery Inc, YDI, is to develop programs that provide all Latino and other minority youth the opportunities necessary to succeed. We believe that advanced education is one of the keys. (Currently Latino youth are graduating from universities at the rate of about 13%, which is about 1/3 the rate of white students.) To this end we have created the Diversity Initiative and are developing the Self-Discovery Class. We believe that for them to really succeed that these youth need to graduate from high school and obtain advanced education beyond high school. The Diversity Discovery Class is part of the Student Campaign and Educator Campaign of the Diversity Initiative. It needs to be supported by parents and the community. We are proposing and support programs that can be exported to the entire nation. We believe that it is entirely in the realm of possibility to double or even triple the number of minority youth who graduate from universities within the next 10 to 20 years.  We believe that it is the youth that will change the world for the better.

We are seeking funding from a variety of sources to support and enhance these programs.

 In the past we have supported such programs as “Discovery” at Mount Logan Middle School, in Logan, UT, and initiated “ESL Discovery” at the same school. These programs emphasize using literature in the outdoors to acquaint students with real life.  Here are some photos of these wonderful programs.  

We hope to see the Latino Initiative we have developed to become a nationwide effort. As founders, we are not invested in an ego trip. We are seeking national leaders who can take over this program and take it to every Latino and minority youth in the Nation. We would like to see a YDI, or another version of it, in every city with a minority population. In other words, we would like to see a National Youth Discovery, and/or a Youth Discovery in every state.

We are not national leaders, nor administrators, nor national fund raisers. We are seeking such leaders to step forward and carry this message for us. Please go to the Volunteer page and choose a role you would like to take in this movement. Then go to the Donate page and either make a donation to our cause or help us find those who can and will.

We have worked directly with Latino youth for many years. We know that they can succeed at least at the level of white youth given the incentives and tools. The Self-Discovery Class intends to give them those tools and incentives. The Latino Initiative is the way to involve the whole community. As many of the points of the Enhancing Youth Self-Esteem as possible should be incorporated into every program to maximize its success.
